14 House Plan Gallery

A house plan gallery is not a collection of random floor plans. It is a curated library of designs organized by style, size, bedrooms, and features. Unlike a single house plan, which serves one client, a gallery serves many potential clients who are looking for inspiration. The challenge is presenting the plans in a way that is easy to browse (organized), easy to understand (clear drawings and descriptions), and easy to compare (consistent scale and orientation).

This gallery presents 20 house plans organized into 4 categories: Small Houses (under 1200 sq ft), Medium Houses (1200-2000 sq ft), Large Houses (2000-3000 sq ft), and Luxury Houses (over 3000 sq ft).

Conclusion

A house plan gallery is a tool for discovery. A client may not know what they want, but they know what they like. By presenting a range of plans—from small cottages to luxury villas—the gallery helps clients identify their preferences: single-story or two-story, open plan or traditional, courtyard or no courtyard, pool or no pool.

The 20 plans presented here represent a cross-section of residential architecture:

Small Houses (under 1200 sq ft) are for minimalists, retirees, couples, and first-time buyers. The challenge is making every square foot count. The compact cottage, narrow lot house, loft house, and L-shaped cottage all solve this problem differently.

Medium Houses (1200-2000 sq ft) are for small families. The split-bedroom ranch, two-story colonial, courtyard house, and L-shaped with pool offer different lifestyles: privacy, tradition, privacy from neighbors, and indoor-outdoor living.

Large Houses (2000-3000 sq ft) are for larger families. The two-story family home, single-story estate, and U-shaped house offer more bedrooms, more bathrooms, and more specialized spaces (home office, study, great room).

Luxury Houses (over 3000 sq ft) are for clients who want the best. The Mediterranean villa, modernist glass house, and hillside retreat offer unique experiences: old-world charm, modern minimalism, and dramatic views.

When browsing a house plan gallery, ask: What is the square footage per person? A 2000 sq ft house for 4 people is 500 sq ft per person—generous. A 2000 sq ft house for 6 people is 333 sq ft per person—cozy.

Ask: What is the circulation? Long corridors waste space. A well-designed plan has short, efficient circulation (or no corridors at all).

Ask: Where is the master bedroom? In a split-bedroom plan, the master is isolated from the secondary bedrooms. In a two-story plan, the master may be on the ground floor (for aging in place) or upstairs (for privacy).

Ask: Where is the laundry? The laundry should be near the bedrooms (to minimize carrying baskets) and near the garage or back door (to bring in dirty clothes from outside).

Ask: What is the indoor-outdoor connection? A house with a courtyard, pool, or large porch extends the living space outdoors. In warm climates, this is essential.

The best house plan is not the largest or the most expensive. It is the one that fits the site, the climate, the budget, and the way the client wants to live. The gallery is just the beginning. The real work is choosing one plan and making it your own.
